STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Colorado Parks and Wildlife is thanking several big game hunters Wednesday, for their help with saving a moose near Steamboat Springs.

According to CPW, five big game hunters assisted a wildlife officer with the rescue of a cow moose that was trapped in a bog near Steamboat.

The female moose was submerged in the mud and water up to her jawline when she was found. The large animal was exhausted and unable to get out of the bog on her own.

Together, the sportsmen and officer were able to successfully remove the moose from the hole.

CPW said that without the hunters' and officer's efforts, the moose would have died.
