Police identify suspect charged in connection to Cañon City man's death

CAÑON CITY — The Cañon City Police Department has identified the suspect charged in the shooting death of a 27-year-old man.

Police identified the man as 54-year-old Kenneth Sweet who was charged with second-degree murder in connection to Ashton Ladd's death.

CCPD responded to the scene is near Third and Macon around 8 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of someone yelling someone had been shot.

A search warrant was executed at the home overnight to search for evidence. Police detained two suspects, ultimately taking one into custody.

Sweet is also facing a tampering with physical evidence charge.
