COLORADO SPRINGS — A public meeting Thursday night gave Cheyenne Cañon homeowners a chance to voice their opinions on the proposed closure of Mayhurst Avenue.
Nearly 100 people attended the meeting.
Colorado Springs officials say it was never meant to be a major thoroughfare. The city says the amount of traffic in the area and weather issues in the winter pose a safety risk.
If the plan is approved, Mayhurst Ave. would be shut down to everyone except for those who live on it.
Several people spoke against the plan.
"I think the consensus at the meeting, everybody that spoke, even most of the folks who live on Mayhurst, they don't want it closed," said Margot Devita.
Noel Perran, chief of the Broadmoor Fire Department, also spoke against the proposal.
The city says it will take input from Thursday's meeting into consideration before making a decision.
