COLORADO SPRINGS — Getting together with family for that Thanksgiving meal is a challenge for some elderly people in the Pikes Peak region.

It's why American Medical Response (AMR) is providing transportation as part of its "Home for the Holidays" program. EMT's are taking folks to and from assisted living or hospice facilities so that they can be with their loved ones.

AMR EMT John Stocking said, "We are given the great joy of bringing Ms. Mary out to her family to spend Thanksgiving with them."

Mary Salter said, "It means everything to me, it really does. It just makes the day to celebrate with your family. Gives you a lot to be thankful for."

AMR said eight people are being transported in Colorado Springs for Thanksgiving. This is the program's 27th year.
