EL PASO COUNTY — Officials in El Paso County are seeing some negative consequences of more people heading outside to enjoy the park system.

This week hikers in Paint Mines Park near Calhan discovered graffiti spray-painted on some delicate formations.

"Defacing of county property, that's not good because it does take our staff's time to get out there and the sooner we get it down, the better it is for the park, the less likely it is to happen," said District 1 County Commissioner Holly Williams.

Williams also pointed out taxpayer money pays for this type of cleanup.

Cleanup on the formations was done Wednesday.

If you see vandalism happening in our great outdoors call the Sheriff's office to report it.
