COLORADO SPRINGS — A special day Friday for a special Colorado Avalanche fan.
Former Colorado Avalanche player John-Michael Liles stopped by UCHealth Memorial Hospital North in Colorado Springs to surprise heart transplant patient Kirk Shiflett.
Shiflett, a Navy veteran, missed out on earlier opportunities to meet Avalanche players because he was too sick.
"Miracles happen and the next thing you know you're meeting a pro hockey player, and then this just tops one of the things on my life," Shiflett said.
Shiflett now has some special memories to take back to his home in Rocky Ford.
Liles visited other patients in the hospital as well.
