Food giveaway provides meals for nearly 600 Colorado Springs families

COLORADO SPRINGS — Wednesday, the Colorado Springs Conservancy broke out the Christmas carols at a food giveaway at Mitchell High School.

The event was sponsored by Pikes Peak United way and Care and Share Food Bank.

580 families were provided with food boxes and some extra goodies for the holidays.

United Way said these food distribution events have provided 750,000 pounds of food to 20,000 families in Colorado Springs since January.

In addition to food boxes, Pikes Peak United Way was also able to provide toys for 160 children in need this holiday season.
