LAS ANIMAS COUNTY — One person was found dead following a fire that engulfed a residence in Aguilar.

The Las Animas County Sheriff's Office said crews were dispatched to the 300 block of San Antonio Avenue early Tuesday morning.

The Sheriff's Office said its department responded to the fire with the Spanish Peaks Fire Department, Hoehne Fire Department, Fisher Peak Fire Department and Bon Carbo Fire Department.

Authorities said they began battling the flames after 12:20 a.m. and were able to control the fire after several minutes.

Deputies learned after the fire was put out that a deceased male in his 30s was found within the location. The Sheriff's Office said he was believed to be a resident.

Deputies said they have not confirmed the identity of the male or his cause of death.

Fire officials said they suspect the fire was just an unfortunate accident.
