Fines increased for illegal dumping in Pueblo

PUEBLO — The Pueblo City/County Trash Task Force is cracking down on illegal dumping.

The group made a presentation on its progress Tuesday to Pueblo City Council.

The fine for illegal dumping has now gone up from $100 to $500, and that's if you're a first-time offender.

"The cost of dumping in some instances was more than the cost of the fine. The cost of the fine had not been revisited for 30 plus years and it was time to bring it into today's dollars," Pueblo County Commissioner Garirison Ortiz said.

The money from these fines will go towards future clean-up efforts at other dump sites.
