COLORADO SPRINGS — Two people have died and one was injured in a crash at South Academy Boulevard and East Fountain Boulevard that had all lanes shut down Thursday morning, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
The department said a Ford sedan ran a red light on South Academy Boulevard, lodging itself underneath a semi-truck. A News5 crew on scene saw the vehicle crushed underneath the semi-truck and emergency crews were able to remove it after lifting the truck.
CSPD identified the two people who died in the crash: 19-year-old Matthew K. Guyon and 21-year-old Quentin L. Jones. Guyon, Jones and a third person were in the Ford.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department assisted with "multiple emergency units" as they responded to the crash, which was first reported around 5 a.m. CSPD said two ambulances were called to the scene and the intersection was anticipated to be "closed for quite a while."
Due to a serious traffic accident, traffic near the intersection of Fountain and Academy will be greatly impacted. If you can choose an alternate route, please do so.
