EL PASO COUNTY — Interstate 25 is once again open following another fatal overnight crash in the Pikes Peak region. State Patrol closed the interstate between the Santa Fe and Mesa Ridge Parkway exits Tuesday evening due to a crash involving both directions of travel.
State Patrol says it appears 24-year-old Aiden Detavernier of Colorado Springs lost control of his Ford Ranger during wet conditions and veered into oncoming traffic in the northbound lanes. His truck hit a Kenworth then spun around and flipped.
Following the impact with the smaller truck, the Kenworth went into the center median and southbound lanes where it collided with a Ford F350.
State Patrol says Detavernier was pronounced dead at the scene. His juvenile passenger has minor injuries. The drivers of the Kenworth and the Ford were taken to the hospital to be checked out. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seatbelts.
The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. All lanes reopened before midnight.
