The first drought monitor update of July shows that D4 exceptional drought conditions have returned to the state for the first time this year.
Now, 34% of the state is under extreme drought, and 68% is under at least moderate drought conditions.
This has been mostly due to a below average snowpack, and a very dry spring thunderstorm season.
This is dry spring and early summer season is especially apparent in Springfield, CO in Baca county where exceptional drought has returned.
Water conservation can reduce the impacts of this drought until a wet pattern returns.
