COLORADO SPRINGS — A former Colorado Springs firefighter who pleaded guilty to to sexual exploitation of a child was sentenced to one year in jail and 10 years of sex offender supervised probation last week.
Stambaugh could have faced up to 12 years in prison for two of the charges, and up to 6 years for the third charge. He pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual exploitation in March.
Robert Stambaugh, 60, was arrested last October following a multi-agency investigation into the "Fun Times" Kik group chat, which featured graphic sexual content involving children as young as 2 years old. Kik provided emails and IP addresses from users involved in that chat, one of those IP addresses was assigned to Stambaugh's Colorado Springs address, located near the intersection of Powers Boulevard and Mesa Ridge Parkway northeast of Fountain.
While police could determine Stambaugh was a member of the group, but police say it is impossible to know which messages were sent by Stambaugh. When police searched Stambaugh’s home, they found a tablet in his garage that police say contained two videos of underage girls “engaged in sexual intercourse with unknown adult males.”
CSFD said Stambaugh retired from the department 14 days after his arrest.
