EL PASO COUNTY — An investigation is underway after an inmate committed suicide at the El Paso County Jail.
A medical emergency was declared at 1:42 Tuesday morning as the inmate was found hanging in his cell.
Jail staff gave the man CPR and used a defibrillator to try to bring him back. According to the sheriff's office, life-saving efforts lasted 30 minutes before the man was pronounced dead.
This is only the second suicide at the El Paso County Jail in the last 10 years, according to a release.
The name of the inmate will not be released until notification of the next of kin and when the name is released by the coroner's office.
