EL PASO COUNTY — The El Paso County Sheriff's Office told residents in the Widefield area to secure their homes and stay away from doors and windows Thursday night due to a barricaded suspect in the area.

The Sheriff's Office said the suspect was in the area of 900 Widefield Dr.

The man at the center of the standoff was later identified as Justin Romero, who was a suspect for felony and misdemeanor crimes.

The Sheriff's Office said Romero was given orders to surrender, and he refused. About four hours later, he tried to escape out of a window but was caught, and was arrested at around 9:45

Romero was booked into the El Paso County Jail for several charges including violation of a restraining order, harassment, and felony vehicular eluding.
