The El Paso County Sheriff's Office released the name of a man involved in a standoff in Cimarron Hills that prompted a handful of evacuations late Thursday night.

The incident on Pahokee Court, near Palmer Park and Peterson, began around 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

EPCSO responded to the 6600 block of Pahokee Court because of a disturbance. Deputies said when they arrived, they learned 47-year-old Michael Jeffers barricaded himself inside the apartment with a firearm.

Deputies learned Jeffers was not a resident of the home.

SWAT responded to the scene along with the Crisis Negotiations Unit. Residents nearby were evacuated.

EPCSO said CNU tried several times to talk Jeffers out of the home.

Deputies said the suspect refused and walked outside waving the gun. They also said Jeffers was pointing the gun toward the front door.

Authorities received a warrant to gain entry to the home and took the suspect into custody.

Deputies said Jeffers was charged with first-degree criminal trespass, criminal mischief and harassment.
