PUEBLO — An investigation is underway after an inmate died at a local hospital Tuesday, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said 40-year-old Dawn Castro was booked into the Pueblo County Jail Sunday night after she turned herself in for a misdemeanor traffic warrant.
Deputies were made aware of a medical condition after Castro alerted them. She was evaluated at the jail and later taken to a local hospital due to the medical staff's assessment.
The sheriff's office said she later died at the hospital with no "visible signs of trauma." They are continuing to investigate the incident with an autopsy scheduled for later Thursday.
