COLORADO SPRINGS — A public art piece is back in place in downtown Colorado Springs after being removed for repair.

The piece, titled "I Have Been Dreaming to be a Tree," was vandalized in mid-September with damage to the right antler.

The city removed the piece and took it to a local metal shop so its creator, South Korean artist Byeung Doo Moon, could return to the city and repair it.

The city's cultural services department has had to deal with damage or theft of exhibits in the past.

"It's frustrating and troubling that we have to put resources into repairing pieces rather than making the collection better," said Director of Cultural Services Matt Mayberry.

A police report has been filed in the vandalism incident.

The public is asked to keep an eye on the 99 works in the city.
