COLORADO SPRINGS — The annual Crystal Apple Awards Banquet for District 11 was canceled this week.

Since it's National Teacher Appreciation Week, the district wanted to do something to honor its teachers and so the prestigious crystals were delivered caravan style to the honorees Wednesday morning.

Organizers of the event surprised the six winners with their prizes at their homes.

"This is a blast. It's just so good to see all these people, my colleagues and people that make this job great," Bart Mann, winner and third grade teacher at Penrose Elementary said.

Teachers in District 11 have been honored with the crystal apple for more than 30 years. Wednesday's event was recorded and the actual banquet has been rescheduled for the fall.
