COLORADO SPRINGS — The Colorado Springs Police Department will conduct a live-fire calibration of its gunshot detection system on Wednesday, Sept. 18th.
CSPD said the controlled tests will consist of a sequence of gunshots, immediately followed by a validation of sound detection by the system.
No bullets will be fire into the air or ground but rather into bullet traps to ensure public safety. There will be no threat to the public as a result of the tests, the department said.
Residents win the Valley Hi, Park Hill, and Pikes Peak neighborhoods may hear gunshots from the tests.
CSPD said the tests will be conducted between 8 and 10 p.m.
