COLORADO SPRINGS — If you live in the Valley Hi, Park Hill, and Pikes Peak Park neighborhoods, you may very well some gunshots tonight between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.. The Colorado Springs police are conducting a live-fire calibration of their gunshot detection system.

The testing consists of a sequence of gunshots followed by a validation of sound detection by the system. During the tests, frangible bullets are being used. The bullets are designed to break up into small pieces if they make contact with a hard surface or other objects. Police are using a bullet trap as well, to ensure public safety and no bullets are being fired into the air or ground.

CSPD says there's no need to panic and there's no danger to the public.
