COLORADO SPRINGS — Late Saturday night, a Colorado Springs Police officer was working extra duty at the 8th Street Walmart when he attempted to apprehend a shoplifter.
According to CSPD, the shoplifting suspect refused to obey the officer's orders and began threatening the officer. The officer deployed his taser but it had little effect on the suspect.
CSPD said the suspect then attempted to leave the store again and a fight ensued as the officer tried to restrain him.
Before other officers could arrive the suspect punched the officer in the face, according to CSPD. Once additional officers did arrive, the suspect was taken into custody.
Both the suspect and the officer received minor injuries from the fight.
CSPD has identified the suspect as 29-year-old Garin Shaw. He was booked for 2nd Degree Assault on an Officer and Theft.
