CSPD identifies cyclist killed Friday

COLORADO SPRINGS — Just before 2:30 p.m. last Friday, Colorado Springs Police responded to a crash involving a car and bicyclist in the 3500 block of North Cascase Ave.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering form serious injuries. He was immediately transported to a local hospital but died from his injuries later that day.

CSPD said their investigation revealed that the cyclist, identified as 49-year-old Meiko Leach of Colorado Springs, was was traveling southbound in the 3500 block of North Cascade Avenue when he was struck from behind by a southbound Chevrolet sedan. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The sedan continued southbound after the initial collision and then ran off the road before striking a sign.

CSPD said the investigation into the incident is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.

Leach is the third cyclist killed in Colorado Springs this year. He is also the 40th traffic fatality this year, according to CSPD.
