CSPD identifies bicyclist killed in North Chelton Road accident

COLORADO SPRINGS — The Colorado Springs Police Department has identified a bicyclist who died following a crash with a vehicle.

The accident happened at the intersection of North Chelton Road and Chelton Circle on Oct. 8.

CSPD said the victim was 62-year-old Craig T. Hanson, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police said Hanson was riding in the southbound lane of North Chelton Road when a Hyundai sedan made a left turn from eastbound Chelton Circle onto northbound North Chelton Road.

Hanson's bike hit the left front fender of the sedan, according to police.

CSPD said the driver of the Hyundai was not impaired. The driver was charged with Careless Driving Resulting in Death.

Officers said Hanson died because of his injuries two days after the accident.

This was the 34th traffic-related death in Colorado Springs this year, according to police. This was the second bicycle-related death this year.
