COLORADO SPRINGS — A Florence man is in custody and facing charges for a hit and run in Colorado Springs that killed a pedestrian.
According to Colorado Springs Police, an arrest warrant was obtained for 29-year-old Tyler Stewart of Florence, Colorado on Monday, Nov. 18. Tuesday morning, Nov. 19, he turned himself in to authorities at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
CSPD said Stewart was the driver in a hit and run crash on Nov. 13 that resulted in the death of Harold Mackey III.
According to CSPD, Stewart driving southbound on Nevada Ave. when he struck and killed Mackey as Mackey was attempting to cross the street in the 1200 block of South Nevada Ave.
Stewart is facing one count of Hit and Run Causing Death (a Class 3 Felony) and Duty to Report an Accident (a misdemeanor).
