FREMONT COUNTY — The Fremont County Sheriff's Office has released data on crime in the county in 2019.

According to the Sheriff's Office, crime is down overall in the county by almost three percent.

There were significant reductions in Type 1 or serious crimes, with a 50 percent reduction in Arson and 66 percent reductions in Homicides and Robberies.

The Sheriff's Office said they are concerned about categories of crime that saw increases in 2019. Those are reported sexual assaults and thefts.

Reported sexual assaults increased by 32 percent, thefts by 24 percent. Of the reported sexual assaults, the greatest increase was in the area of Sexual Assault on a Child, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office said the increase in theft cases may be tied to an increase in the number of reported car break-ins.
