DOUGLAS COUNTY — Crews are fighting a small wildfire in Douglas County, about 7 miles southwest of Larkspur.
The East Plum Fire was reported before 2:30 Thursday afternoon and is estimated at about 1 acre.
Six firefighters rappelled in to work the fire Thursday and will remain on-scene overnight. Additional ground crews that tried to hike in were unable to get to the fire before sunset and will make the hike Friday.
The U.S. Forest Service said the main concern about the fire is that it is in rugged terrain that is difficult to access.
Another concern is unauthorized flights over the area.
Late Thursday afternoon air resources were grounded after a drone was spotted over the fire. USFS said that caused valuable time to be lost.
There is no immediate risk to structures, but smoke will likely be visible along the front range Friday.
