COLORADO SPRINGS — Training is happening this week for crew bosses who will lead the close to 3,000 volunteers who signed up for the upcoming Creek Week.
There are 40 Creek Week clean-up events happening from Sept. 27 through Oct. 5.
"It is a way to get people out into the resource to understand that we really do play a big role int he health of our watershed and there's very easy things we can do to protect it," said Allison Schuch, Watershed Outreach Coordinator.
Creek Week is in it’s fifth year or cleaning waterways in Southern Colorado.
The need for the training shows the trash making it into our local waterways is more than an eyesore.
"We find all sorts of things out there and unfortunately some of things can be dangerous. So, if there's any doubt we ask people to leave them alone," Schuch said.
Hazardous material can also contaminate water.
There is still time to take part. Find out more at fountaincreekweek.com
