BENT COUNTY — Colorado State Patrol is investigating a crash on Highway 50 in Bent County that sent one person to the hospital.

Troopers were called to the area near milepost 408 around 4:47 Thursday afternoon.

They said a gray 2002 Ford Explorer, driven by William Elliott from Lamar, was headed eastbound when it went off the side of the highway and hit an embankment.

The vehicle traveled about 99 feet in the air before hitting the ground front end first. It moved about 128 more feet before landing on its wheels.

Elliott was not injured in the crash.

A passenger in the front seat, Arita Elliott, also of Lamar, went to Prowers Medical Center to be treated for a fractured vertebra.

There's no word on what caused the crash.
