DENVER — Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking information from anyone who may be aware of individuals lawfully or unlawfully hunting deer with crossbows in the Coal Creek Canyon.

The agency received a report this week of a mule deer buck walking around with an arrow (bolt) in its head. CPW said wildlife officers were able to locate the deer on Sunday and put it down. They were worried about infection and wanted to keep the deer from suffering.

The report came from just east of the town of Wondervu, near the intersection of Highway 72 and Copperdale Ln.

Anyone with information on this deer or knowledge of people hunting with crossbows in the Coal Creek Canyon is asked to call CPW at (303) 291-7227. You can also make reports anonymously through Operation Game Thief by calling 1-877-265-6648 or through email at game.thief@state.co.us

There is an active hunting season taking place in that unit, Game Management Unit 38, that runs from Dec. 1 through Jan. 31.
