Man suspected of shooting Costilla County deputy captured

FORT GARLAND — The Colorado State Patrol tweeted that the man suspected of shooting a Costilla County deputy multiple times Wednesday morning has been captured.

Authorities identified the suspect as Jackie Wampler Jr., who was believed to be armed and dangerous.

The Costilla County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page Wednesday morning that a deputy was shot while investigating a burglary call in the Forbes Ranch area around 4:11 a.m. The deputy is stable and is recovering at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center, according to the sheriff's office.
