COLORADO SPRINGS — Five people were arrested for blocking traffic during a protest in downtown Colorado Springs Thursday evening, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The department said 25 to 30 people were protesting near City Hall around 7:20 p.m. when they began blocking the northbound lanes of North Nevada Avenue at Kiowa Street. Police said there were several people seen throwing glass bottles and yelling at drivers attempting to move through the intersection.

Officers responded to the scene around 8:10 p.m. and ordered the protesters to clear the roadway. After 10 minutes, five people were arrested after refusing to move from the road.

The department said two men and three women were charged with obstructing highway or other passageway and taken into custody.
