Colorado Springs nonprofits create food-delivery program for elderly, disabled

COLORADO SPRINGS — A new food-box delivery program is up and running in Colorado Springs this month for those with disabilities and the elderly, both without a means of transportation.

The Salvation Army, COSILoveYou, Pikes Peak United Way, and Care and Share Food Bank are working together to deliver food throughout April to those who can't drive, are 60 years and older, or have disabilities.

Originally, this delivery was meant for senior citizens 60 years of age and older. There have been 160 seniors served already by this delivery program, but the group wanted to serve more people and expanded it to include people with disabilities who do not have a means of transportation.

If you will like to receive a food box, all you have to do is call Pikes Peak United Way at 2-1-1. Care and Share says the food box will be delivered within one to two days after you place your request. They will leave it at your door and ring the doorbell.

All the food will be provided by Care and Share Food Bank while the other organizations pitch in on transportation resources and volunteers to help.
