COLORADO SPRINGS — Just after 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, Colorado Springs Police responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of 19th and King Streets.

Responding officers attempted life-saving measures on one of the passengers of the vehicle, but were unsuccessful.

CSPD said the crash involved a jeep that lost control on a snow-packed road and rolled after hitting a curb.

The passenger that died has been identified as 21-year-old Jonathan Dalton of Colorado Springs.

Police said the driver of the jeep, 21-year-old Lyndon Loflin, was found to be intoxicated. After being taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries, he was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail for Vehicular Homicide and DUI.

There was a second passenger that was uninjured in the crash.

Police said Dalton's death is the city's 50th traffic fatality in 2020. At this time last year, there were 42. This is a new record for traffic fatalities in a calendar year for Colorado Springs. The previous record was 48, according to Colorado Springs Police.
