COLORADO SPRINGS — A Colorado Springs man died Sunday after being involved in an auto/pedestrian accident on Saturday.

Police responded to an area near East Galley and North Academy Saturday evening and located the man following the accident. He was suffering from serious injuries.

Police said the man was attempting to cross Galley outside of a crosswalk. The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. The driver was not suspected of being impaired and police don't believe excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

On Sunday, the pedestrian, identified as 49-year-old Phillip Bonilla, died as a result of his injuries.

Police said Bonilla is the third traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2021 and the first pedestrian to be killed.
