COLORADO SPRINGS — Southwest Airlines will offer its service at Colorado Springs Airport starting next year, according to an announcement from the airport Thursday morning.

Up to this point, Coloradans who wanted to fly on Southwest would have to travel to Denver. The Colorado Springs Airport is currently serviced by four airlines: American Airlines, Delta, Frontier and United.

“We are thrilled to welcome Southwest Airlines to our community and look forward to the positive economic and cultural impact it will have,” Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers said in a release. “Whenever I have discussed air service in Colorado Springs with our citizens, they inevitably ask about Southwest Airlines."

The airport described Southwest Airlines in the announcement as having "iconic hospitality, low fares, and customer-friendly policies" that line up with the values of Colorado Springs Airport.

Southwest Airlines is anticipated to begin its service in the first half of 2021.
