EL PASO COUNTY — A series of two shootings overnight has the El Paso County Sheriff's Office investigating one homicide, and searching for answers about a victim in critical condition was left at a convenience store in the Cimarron Hills area.

The first shooting happened around 9:30 Tuesday night on the 1900 block of Shawnee Drive.

Neighbor Leonard Williams tells News5's Jessica Barreto he was winding down when, "I heard two shots. It was about a half second and then 14 more consecutively."

"I got down and my wife came out and she's like 'call 911' and then she looked out the window. She said, 'There's a body out front in front of the mailbox.' Came out and sure enough, there's a guy laying at the mailbox," explains Williams.

El Paso County Sheriff's deputies soon arrived and confirmed the victim died at the scene. As of Wednesday afternoon, a name has not been released pending notification of the next of kin.

Due to to the continued investigation, deputies closed down north and southbound Peterson Road from Chippewa Road to Omaha Boulevard, and eastbound and westbound White Mountain Drive from Peterson Road to Winnebago Road.
