FREMONT COUNTY — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) said the Canyonlands Fire in Fremont County is now 100 percent contained.
The blaze that was burning nine miles northwest of Cañon City, was started by lightning on July 9, according to authorities.
The Canyonlands Fire has burned about 34 acres, entirely on BLM lands. Authorities said no structures were threatened.
According to BLM, there are still islands of unburned vegetation within the fire containment lines. These pockets are inside the burned area perimeter and pose little threat to the fire containment lines. With warm and dry weather expected over the next few days, these areas may ignite.
Residents can expect to see smoke periodically, especially during the afternoon.
