Cañon City shooting leaves 1 dead in home garage

CAÑON CITY — A man has been arrested for a second-degree murder charge in Cañon City after officers found a man dead Sunday in a home's garage, according to the Cañon City Police Department.

The department said 39-year-old Derrick Donahue was arrested Monday morning as a result of its investigation of the murder. Officers received a call reporting a shooting at a home in the 900 block of South 3rd St. Police said there was an argument between Donahue and the victim, ending with the victim being shot.

When officers arrived, they found the man dead in the garage. Along with second-degree murder charges, Donahue is also facing tampering with physical evidence and an outstanding warrant charges.

The Fremont County Coroner's Office will release the victim's identity at a later time.

Police said there is no threat to the community at this time and that this is an on-going investigation.
