CAÑON CITY — Cañon City Schools Fremont Re-1 has announced Monday it will continue e-learning through the end of the school year.
The district said that whenever the community transitions out of the stay-at-home order, there will still be some difficulties resuming the school year if the order is rolled back in early May.
"What tears at my heart most is that, while our instructional staff is doing absolutely amazing work sustaining relationships with students and driving learning forward, neither they or our children have had the opportunity to properly say goodbye. Because of this, if we can find a way in late May to bring students back for a safe visit to their classrooms, and their parents are comfortable allowing them to do so, we will, literally, keep the door open to this as an option," wrote George S. Welsh, superintendent of schools.
Welsh said the graduating class of this school year has rescheduled its ceremony for July 30, 2020, at Citizens' Stadium, though there is "still a bit of risk that such gatherings may not be allowed."
The school year is scheduled to end on May 22 with plans in place to continue meal distribution through the summer. For more information, click here.
