COLORADO SPRINGS — A mule deer buck found himself in a very bad spot Friday evening in Colorado Springs.

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the deer wandered across the ice on a lake in the Kissing Camels neighborhood and fell through.

CPW wildlife officer Cassidy English responded around 5:30 Friday evening and found the buck deep in the lake. She called the Colorado Springs Fire Dept. for assistance.

A responding firefighter donned a dry suit and wadded into the lake to attempt to rescue the deer. CPW said the firefighter broke ice in the lake, leaving the buck a clear path to shore.

The plan put together by Officer English and the CSFD worked and the buck followed the open water to shore.

Thanks to CPW and the CSFD for performing this dangerous work.
