COLORADO SPRINGS — We have a traffic alert for drivers on Platte Avenue in Colorado Springs.

Drivers should expect some delays on the east side of town while crews work to demolish the bridges over Sand Creek.

The project is set to wrap up in 2022.

"Platte Avenue's really a critical east-west road for the city of Colorado Springs. It's going to take a lot of residents, future residents that are going to be out in the Banning Lewis area as that develops. There'll be some redevelopment. But we really think Platte will be a really critical inbound road to the city," engineer Aaron Egbert said.

The new bridge will also allow parks and rec to build the Sand Creek Trail underneath.
