LAS ANIMAS — Saturday afternoon, the Bent County Sheriff's Office, Las Animas Fire Department, and the La Junta Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1700 block of 8th St. in Las Animas.
Saturday evening, the Sheriff's Office reported that a person was found dead inside the residence.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation joint the Bent County Sheriff's Office in investigating the scene.
The Sheriff's Office said 8th St. between Park Ave and McAfee Ave and the intersection of 8th St. and McBride will be closed off until Monday at the earliest. Residents are asked to avoid the area.
No further information has been released at this time. The Bent County Sheriff's Office said updates may be provided after Monday.
