EL PASO COUNTY — A barricaded suspect in the Falcon area was taken into custody just before 1 a.m. Tuesday by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office said the suspect was barricaded in the 7600 block of Mortensen Rd around 10:50 p.m. Monday.
Authorities were following up on a child abuse case with an arrest warrant for the suspect, who has been identified as 37-year-old Charles Dowling, when deputies who were trying to contact the suspect and assist El Paso County Department of Human Services were told by one of the children through a front window that Dowling would not speak to them.
The sheriff's office said the two children in the home were able to escape "and EPCDHS took them for placement." Deputies said they were told by the children that their dad "was armed with several guns."
Dowling has been booked into the El Paso County Jail and charged with felony menacing, child abuse, and third-degree assault.
