PUEBLO — The City of Pueblo has a new fire chief as Mayor Nick Gradisar has named Captain Barbara Huber as his choice to lead Pueblo Fire.

Huber has served the department since 1998, holding the rank of captain for the past 12 years.

The posting became available in April when Shawn Shelton announced his retirement from civil service after 31 years with the city.

Huber was among six candidates for the job. She'll now take over on an interim basis until city council votes to confirm her as the next fire chief.

She's the first woman to hold that job in the city's history.
