'Backpack Bash' begins, free school supplies to be distributed

COLORADO SPRINGS — The nonprofit COSILoveYou is working churches, nonprofits, and businesses is provide free school supplies for families in our community.

Saturday marks the beginning of the distribution event, called the Backpack Bash, which will be spread out across five locations in Colorado Springs.

"This might be the most challenging start to a school year that families are having because around our community," explained Stu Davis, executive director of COSILoveYou. "Just because of coronavirus, the way schools are dealing with things, so essentially for us to be able to provide a backpack full of school supplies that supplements what a lot of our school districts are providing on their own."

If you are a family in need who would like to participate, here are the dates and locations to pick up these free school supplies:

Here are the following guidelines you should keep in mind:

  • Each family is allowed to attend ONE Backpack Bash (on either Aug 1st or Aug 8th)
  • For your safety, backpacks will be given out via drive thru. Please wear a mask.
  • Your student must be present to receive their FREE backpack
  • Backpacks will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
