Authorities identify inmate who died in the Criminal Justice Center

EL PASO COUNTY — Authorities have identified the inmate who died at the Criminal Justice Center on January 17.

Ten El Paso County Sheriff's Deputies have been placed on paid leave after an altercation with an inmate turned violent, leaving the inmate dead.

The inmate was housed in the medical section at the time and died despite immediate life-saving measures by deputies, medical staff and first responders.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office completed an autopsy and identified the inmate as 44-year-old Brian Clark of Colorado Springs.

Clark was being held on a warrant for indecent exposure.

The Colorado Springs Police Department is assuming the investigation into the inmate's death and will provide additional information as the investigation continues.
