COLORADO SPRINGS — A new apartment building is set to open soon in downtown Colorado Springs.

The complex is named in honor of a pioneer of civil rights.

Fannie Mae Duncan operated the Cotton Club on W. Colorado Ave. in the 50s and 60s.

While its doors were open, the Cotton Club was welcoming to everyone and featured a variety of national entertainment, hospitality, and food. It made Fannie Mae Duncan very popular in the community.

The apartments are called "Mae on Cascade," and will open in late August.
