COLORADO SPRINGS — Academy School District 20 released an update to its back to school plan Tuesday.

The change comes for students in grades 6 - 12.

The plan implemented last week will remain the same for pre-k - 5th grade. These students will have the option of returning to school on Aug. 24 in person or online.

Students in grades 6 - 12 will start the year remotely on Aug. 24 and will attend school in a remote synchronous environment, the district said. Students will log-in to class from home and attend school classes as if they were in person. They will follow their daily schedules, in real-time, and will engage in a variety of classroom learning activities.

Teachers will log-in to class from their school classroom, take attendance, and lead classroom activities for the duration of the scheduled class. Students will be expected to attend class and teachers will lead classes according to their daily schedules.

The district said the tentative goal is to have all students begin the hybrid model combined with a 100% synchronous option on Sept. 14.

Students who are part of the district's special populations and require additional services will be served in person. Representatives from the school or district will reach out to these families, individually, to create a return to school plan.

In the release Tuesday, the district added that due to COVID-19 this plan is subject to change based on updated data from El Paso County Health or other authorities.
