Nearly 700 inmates at El Paso County Jail test positive for COVID-19

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday that the El Paso County Jail has implemented very restrictive housing measures in the jail complex due to a rampant outbreak of COVID-19. According to the sheriff's office, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment deployed a rapid response team Sunday comprised of Colorado National Guard soldiers to facilitate widespread testing of inmates at the El Paso County Jail.

Officer-involved shooting under investigation near Fort Carson

Police activity has shut down the northbound lanes of Highway 115 north of Academy early Wednesday morning due to an officer-involved shooting, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department. The activity is between State Park Road and Cheyenne Meadows Road as of 5:30 a.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The shooting took place in the area of Highway 115 and O'Connell Boulevard near Fort Carson.

Another day of above-average warmth

Southern Colorado saw record warmth on Tuesday with Colorado Springs hitting 78 and Pueblo 81 in the afternoon! Today will be a touch cooler with more sunshine and a stronger breeze out of the north. Overnight we'll stay clear and cool with lows falling back to the 40s and some upper 30s.

Coloradans vote to repeal Gallagher Amendment to state Constitution

Colorado’s 38-year-old Gallagher Amendment has been repealed by voters, who passed Amendment B in a 58%-42% vote as of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, with 82% of precincts reporting.

The Associated Press called the race not long after 10 p.m. Tuesday. The repeal ofthe Gallagher Amendment to the state constitution, which was first passed in 1982, is a victory for those who have fought for years to repeal it to balance out the share of property taxes paid by businesses and ideally free more money up for schools, fire districts, hospitals and more – particularly in rural parts of Colorado.

Election 2020 updates in southern Colorado

The polls have been closed throughout the U.S. for several hours, and the outcome of the presidential election remains in doubt — for now. As it stands, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has a slight advantage over President Donald Trump in electoral college votes, but several key swing states have yet to be called.
